November Newsletter

Halloween - check! Bonfire Night - Check! Children In Need - Check! Christmas Lights - Check! We are moving rapidly down the list that ends with December 25th. Rehearsals are well underway for our Christmas shows and the PTCA Christmas Fayre is almost upon us. We are looking forward to an enjoyable festive season and hope you’ll be coming along to one of our events to join in the fun.

This coming Friday (November 27th) we are having a NON-UNIFORM DAY. We are not trying to raise money on this occasion but simply ask for a donation of a teddy bear or similar soft toy for our ‘Teddy Tombola’ at the Christmas Fayre next Wednesday (December 2nd).

These will be on sale from the school reception from WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 25th. For the first week of sale, they will be restricted to 2 tickets per child. From WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 2nd they will be available without restriction. Tickets cost £3 for each performance.

This will be on WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 16th this year. If you wish your child to have Christmas Dinner then please let us know as soon as possible. The cost is £2.30.

A key factor in a child’s educational success is regular attendance at school. It cannot be overemphasised how important this is. We aim for an attendance rate of 95% for EVERY CHILD. In a test or exam, 90% would be considered a very good result. The same doesn’t hold true for attendance. When looking at school attendance 90% equates to half a day absence per week. This in turn equates to 4 weeks absence in an academic year. If a child persistently had 90% attendance over the course of their education they would have been absent for a whole year of their education. The benefits of 95% and above attendance are:

• Attendance has a direct link to attainment. If a child is not in school regularly they are not fully accessing the curriculum and learning opportunities available to them.

• Achieving at school builds a child’s self-esteem, as well as enhancing their future prospects.

• Attending school and being part of the school’s community gives a child a sense of belonging and promotes their social development.

• Spending time with school staff teaches a child about society’s expectations with regards to behaviour and how to communicate with people in authority preparing them for adult life.

• Attending school gives a child the opportunity to experience positive separation from their parent(s)/carer(s), which builds their confidence and resistance.

It is only with your co-operation that we can ensure our pupils have the very best chance of

achieving success in their education. Please consider this information when making a decision that

will result in your child missing ANY of their vital school time.
